Hi all,
Glad to see some good quality training sessions going on. I hope you're all enjoying it.
Here are some details for race day (Sat 6th Sept). Quite a lot of information I'm afraid.
Crew names & numbers
Attached is a list of the crews with numbers & current crew names.
Your crew number will follow you throughout race day, remember it.
If you haven't given me a crew name, now is the time, or it'll miss the programme & you'll be referred to as "Crew X, TBC" all day!
It's also a good time to finalise your fancy dress costumes if you're giving that a whirl. For those of you who haven't been before, lots of crews do the fancy dress thing & we do have a prize for the two best dressed crews.
Event categories
Also in the attachment is the list of what category you've entered. Please check it's correct.
You may also observe that there are only 3 categories - Novice women & Experienced women have been combined into the same event as there were not enough entries in these categories to run these separately.
Race day timing
Arrival: You need to register your team by 10am. Registration will open at 9:30am.
Overall timing: The last race is due around 5:30pm & presentations at 6pm.
Registration
At registration you'll be given a race day pack which will include your race number (which your bowman will need to safety pin to their back), rules of racing & other interesting facts.
Please register on time - we can't hold racing to wait for crews who are late. If you're not registered & ready to race, you'll be disqualified.
Parking
Please use the council car parks. I'm afraid we have no concessionary parking. Be aware that the car park attendants are very efficient.
Racing
The first rounds of racing are pool events (akin to the football World Cup & unlike Olympic rowing, if you've been swatting up...).
Two crews qualify from each pool into the knockout stages.
Prizes are for the winner and runner up of each category.
Rules of racing are also attached & will be part of your registration pack when you arrive on race day.
The draw will follow later in the week to prevent any confusion if last minute changes occur. You'll also find the draw in the programme, also in your registration packs.
Safety
Although incidents are rare, we are supported on race day by both safety boats on the water and St Johns Ambulance based on land. Let any marshal know if there's a problem & we'll get the relevant team in action.
In the unlikely event of a capsize (haven't had one in years!), stay with the boat, which will float, & the safety team will be with you (& undoubtedly your supporters cameras will suddenly be found!)
Race day entertainments
As well as racing, we lay on a number of other activities to keep you & your supporters entertained.
This year these include:
Please note that we actively discourage crews from drinking alcohol and rowing. The two are clearly not a safe combination & we reserve the right to prevent crews from racing who are deemed unsafe.
I hope I haven't flooded you with too much information. Any questions, fire them at either your coaches when you next see them, or this e-mail address & we'll do our best to answer them.
I hope you're all looking forward to race day as much as the team & I are.
