How long have you been doing your sport?
I have been rowing since I was 13 as a year 7, so almost 5 years now!
What influenced you to take up your sport?
A scheme called ‘project oarsome’ came into school to promote rowing and I thought that it would be interesting to try, so went along to the sessions after school. I really enjoyed it so continued through until now!
List your achievements during the past year

March 2012
Torch Bearer for ‘The Games’
As many of you may have heard, I received my conditional offer to be a London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer back in December 2011. I am delighted to say that I have been given a confirmed place on the torch relay. Although I do not know exact details of my position on the run, I do know that it will be between Birmingham and Coventry somewhere on Sunday 1st July.
I am now heading off on training camp in France from Wednesday (21st March – 6th April)

July 2011
National Rowing Championships of Great Britain, I achieved a Silver Medal, held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

May 2011
National Schools Regatta – I achieved 4th position, held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.
GB Junior Final trials, from Thursday 1st July through until Sunday 4th July at Caversham, Pinsent and Regrave Rowing Lake.
March 2009 Representing West Midlands at the Junior Inter-regional trials, NWSC Nottingham. Gold for their region. Single sculls event (WJ16 1x), attaining second position and a Silver medal for the region.

May 2009
Competing at the School’s Head of the River, held on the Thames, coxedfour in the older age group of WJ18. The crew finished 1st overall. At the National School’s Regatta in May, WJ18 coxed fours event, finishing first and winning Gold

July 2009
At the National Rowing Championships of G.B. competed in the older age category of WJ18, in both the coxless and coxed four events, finished in Gold Medal and Silver Medal positions respectively.
Following these results, these crews were both selected to represent England as WJ18 crews in the Home International Regatta one week later, where crews from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales compete. Coxless four crew finished in second position at the regatta and coxed team finished third overall.

October 2009
At the British Indoor Rowing Competition finished 5th in the individual WJ18 event and first in the WJ18 Team event winning a Gold medal. Invited to attend the Junior World Potential Camp for a week’s residential training and assessment by G.B. Junior coaches. Selected to attend a one week, residential G.B.Junior training camp in Nantes, France in December2009.
February /March 2010
Having been nominated by the junior and Under 23’s Head Coach and Selector, awarded a Sportsaid grant.
G.B.Junior Long Distance Trials and finishes in 17th position overall out of some 50+ individual single scullers. All compeitiors here must have achieved certain levels of performance criteria to take part and are invited from across the country. At the same trials competed in a coxless pair with partner from Gloucester, finishing in 4th position in a group of 12 pairs.
Invited to row in a Junior G.B.Triallists composite coxed 8 at the Women’s Head of the River. Rowing alongside team members from Runcorn R.C, Gloucester R.C, Glasgow Schools R.C, Canford School R.C, Latymer School R.C. and Nottingham R.C, this crew of 16, 17 and 18 year olds were entered as a ‘scratch crew’, in the Elite category. Finished 14th position overall out of some 300+ crews. finished 5th in the Elite category, which was won by the G.B. Senior Women’s composite crew which included some of our Olympic hopefuls.
G.B.Junior Spring Assessments, a 3 day residential camp at Nottingham. Finishing 2nd overall on stroke side and selected for the Munich International Regatta squad.
July/August 2010
World Rowing Junior Championships in Racice in the Czech Republic, got a Gold Medal in the Junior Women’s Eight category. This is the first ever girls gold medal Great Britain have ever won at the championships, after having many silvers and bronzes over the past few years!

Ranking?
Press/Media Coverage?
What would you say your greatest sporting achievement is?
I would say that so far, being selected to represent Great Britain has been my greatest achievement, but I hope there will be many more achievements this coming season that I can claim to be my greatest in the near future.
What are your future aspirations in your sport?
My main aim for this year is to compete at the Junior World or European Championships. For the future, I want to progress to eventually make it onto the senior rowing team for the world championships and maybe even the Olympics.

How often do you train?
I currently train 6 days a week, and have Friday as my day off. Weekdays I land train from 4pm-6pm and the weekends 9am-1pm on the water. Also, training camp in Chester for 2 weeks, followed by a week’s training camp in Caversham.
Why do you enjoy participating in sport?
I enjoy sport for the buzz that I get when I’m taking part and competing, and I can’t get that feeling from anything else. I also enjoy meeting new friends from all over the country that I know I’ll stay in touch with for a long time.

How may being selected to receive a CAP Bursary help you in your sporting career?
The bursary will allow me to travel to essential training camps and competitions, allowing me to progress further in the GB rowing system and hopefully achieve my goal of rowing at the Junior World, or European Championships this year

We were really proud to have received so many kind comments regarding how much everyone had enjoyed the day. Also, grateful thanks to the City Barge Venetian Rowers who provided a fantastic spectacle via their demonstration, plus the added bonus they gave via offering gondola rides for the crowds.

Stratford upon Avon Boat Club are delighted to welcome City Barge to our annual fine boat regatta.

City Barge is an interestingly different rowing club, dedicated to rowing beautiful and sometimes historic boats. The club is based at Long Bridges Boathouse on the River Isis (or Thames) in Oxford near the confluence with the River Cherwell, not far from the Oxford Canal.

They practise regularly in Oxford and also row in many other places in the UK and Europe. Every May City Barge goes to Venice to take part in the Voga Longa, which is 32km and demands some fitness and the ability to handle wind, tide and choppy conditions. The City Barge’s members are all ages and both male and female. They have the common interest in wanting to row, which is excellent exercise, but they also admire beautifully constructed rowing boats. Besides watermanship, they also enjoy the aerobic exercise, the beautiful wooden boats and the party atmosphere that goes with them. Many of them also love Venice – particularly in May. They enjoy taking brief holidays rowing down beautiful rivers in England, France and other countries.

The club has two captains – one for rowing Venetian style – and the other for sitting down – in the English style. In both cases they encourage flexibility of side and skill – so that whoever turns up should get a row. City Barge sends crews of both types of crews to Venice and they participate in many other events participate in many other events.
