Fun Regatta = Teams of 4, 3×1 hour training sessions in the weeks up to the event, @£40 per person.
Stratford’s Fun Regatta really is all about fun, right through from the 3, one-hour training sessions to the end of a packed day of head-to-head racing. You don’t have to be big, fit or strong to do well in this event, or have any idea of one end of a boat from the other; we’ll provide you with all the equipment and instruction, to win you just need good teamwork and timing.
However, never was the phrase “It isn’t the winning that counts, but the taking part” more apt! This event is aimed at people who are completely new to rowing who either want to have a go for a laugh, be sponsored for a good cause or who gave up the sport, donkeys years ago and want to prove to their friends that they’ve not lost it. Entry is open to male, female or mixed crews.
It’s also a great day out for spectators with exciting races every few minutes and plenty of thrills and spills. The race course runs along the theatre from the ferry and races can be viewed from both banks, either by sitting on a rug on the Recreation Ground or on a bench outside the world-famous theatre with a G&T.
If you fancy a break from watching men dressed as women racing against Smurfs you could sample one of our scrumptious burgers, or bacon or sausage baps from the BBQ (we of course offer just as tasty vegetarian options) or have a quintessentially English cup of tea and a piece of cake in the tea tent or perhaps a refreshing pint or glass of Pimm’s from the bar.
